The fire, measuring six hectares has now been contained.
Fire Forestry Management Victoria crews will be blacking out throughout day with FRV support.
Victoria Police also remain on scene to assist with operations.
The Western Ring Road is now open again, however, Altona bound lanes have reduced speed limits between Airport Drive and Sunshine Avenue.
The incident is deemed suspicious.
38 FRV and CFA appliances and 150 firefighters were committed to the firefight.

Crews have worked hard to bring the grass and scrub fire on both sides of a valley under control by 1.03pm.
No injuries have been reported.
Approximately 40 FRV and CFA appliances and 120 firefighters responded to the blaze with Victoria Police assisting with traffic and ambulance Victoria to monitor firefighter health.
Parks Victotia and Fire Forestry Management Victoria also assisted FRV operations.
The Western Ringroad between Keilor Park Drive and Sunshine Avenue remains closed at least until 3am.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) have responded to an incident in Keilor East at 10pm after multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a grass and scrub fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene within seven minutes to find a grass and scrub fire approximately 1.5 kilometre x 1 kilometre spreading toward the Western Ring Road.
VicRoads will be closing the Geelong Bound lane of the Western Ring Road between Sunshine Avenue and Keior Park Drive.
Crews, assisted by CFA have escalated the response and are currently making entry to the fire to extinguish it.
The blaze is not yet under control.
A community advice has been issued for a Grass Fire in the area.
