Firefighters contain Burwood house fire

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews responded to a house fire in Highbury Road, Burwood at 5.35pm following several calls to Triple Zero (000).

Crews arrived on scene within four minutes to find smoke issuing from the roof and a significant fire in the rear kitchen of the single storey home, so the response was escalated.

Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire to the kitchen with minor spreading into the roof.

All occupants were safely evacuated from the house.

The fire was deemed under control by 5.58pm.

At total of eight appliances and 24 firefighters attended the scene.

Ambulance Victoria was on scene to monitor firefighter health and Victoria Police attended for traffic management.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but it will be investigated by FRV specialists.
