More than a dozen diners and staff have escaped injury following an explosion at a Bonbeach restaurant this evening.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) was called to the Nepean Highway at 6pm Wednesday evening after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a kitchen explosion.
FRV crews from Springvale (Fire Station 89) and Patterson River (Fire Station 90) arrived on scene within five minutes to find the force of the explosion had blown the internal kitchen doors and front windows out. It also caused damage to the sprinkler head resulting in flooding.
Thankfully, the chef had left the kitchen seconds before the explosion occurred.
Approximately 10 diners were evacuated as well as approximately 20 residents living in apartments on the level above the restaurant.
FRV crews, supported by the CFA, isolated the power and gas supplies, as well as the sprinkler system.
The incident was deemed Under Control at 6.12pm.
Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria and the gas company were also on scene, and WorkSafe notified.
